Shoulder to Shoulder
I was invited to create a mural for Macmillan Cancer Charity, for their brand-new chill out area at Pontefract General Hospital. This one meant a lot to me for two reasons:
1. Macmillan does such incredible, important work.
2. Pontefract is where I grew up before leaving at 18 – so this felt like coming home.
Kimberley and Keely, who led the project, shared their vision: “The centre is here to provide information, emotional support, financial advice, practical support and social connection. When you feel lost, we help you navigate and find your way.”
They also wanted the mural to capture the spirit of Pontefract – its community, its history, and that feeling of belonging and pride. I really hope that comes across in the piece, and that anyone who sees it feels supported by Macmillan every step of the way.
On a personal note, working on this brought back so many fond childhood memories.
The mural was printed onto a special digital wallpaper (wipeable and bacteria-free for hospital use) and installed flawlessly by my good mate Chris Pitts at decor-elevate.co.uk – as always, he smashed it.
